The FrameLoader::startLoad function in WebKit/Source/core/loader/FrameLoader.cpp in Blink, as used in Google Chrome before 51.0.2704.79, does not prevent frame navigations during DocumentLoader detach operations, which allows remote attackers to bypass the Same Origin Policy via crafted JavaScript code.

The weakness was disclosed 06/05/2016 (Website). The advisory is available at crbug.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2016-1697 since 01/12/2016. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 08/23/2022). It is expected to see the exploit prices for this product increasing in the near future.This vulnerability is assigned to T1068 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
