Symantec Critical System Protection/Data Center Security Management Server sql injection

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Symantec Critical System Protection and Data Center Security (the affected version is unknown). Affected by this issue is an unknown code of the component Management Server. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-89. The software constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

SQL injection vulnerability in the Management Server in Symantec Embedded Security: Critical System Protection (SES:CSP) 1.0.x before 1.0 MP5, Embedded Security: Critical System Protection for Controllers and Devices (SES:CSP) 6.5.0 before MP1, Critical System Protection (SCSP) before 5.2.9 MP6, Data Center Security: Server Advanced Server (DCS:SA) 6.x before 6.5 MP1 and 6.6 before MP1, and Data Center Security: Server Advanced Server and Agents (DCS:SA) through 6.6 MP1 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary SQL commands via unspecified vectors.

The weakness was published 06/07/2016 by Markus Wulftange with Code White as not defined advisory (Website). The advisory is available at This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2015-8157 since 11/13/2015. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. A simple authentication is needed for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1505 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 80911 (Symantec Critical System Protection 5.2.9.x < 5.2.9 MP6 Multiple Vulnerabilities (SYM15-001 / SYM16-009)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 370094 (Symantec Embedded Security: Critical System Protection and Symantec Data Center Security: Server Advanced, Multiple Vulnerabilities).

Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at Tenable (80911). Similar entries are available at 73718, 73711, 87771 and 87772.
