The weakness was disclosed 05/21/2013 by Nils with MWR Labs/InfoSecurity as 230117 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at code.google.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability was named CVE-2013-2840 since 04/11/2013. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 66676 (Debian DSA-2695-1 : chromium-browser - several issues), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Debian Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 121201 (Google Chrome Prior to 27.0.1453.93 Multiple Vulnerabilities).
