A vulnerability was found in Google Android on Nexus 5/Nexus 7 2013 (Smartphone Operating System) and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is the function vid_dec_set_meta_buffers
of the file drivers/video/msm/vidc/common/dec/vdec.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
The vid_dec_set_meta_buffers function in drivers/video/msm/vidc/common/dec/vdec.c in the Qualcomm components in Android before 2016-07-05 on Nexus 5 and 7 (2013) devices does not validate the number of buffers, which allows attackers to gain privileges via a crafted application, aka Android internal bug 28598501 and Qualcomm internal bug CR563654.
The weakness was presented 07/06/2016 as Android Security Bulletin - July 2016 as confirmed security bulletin (Website). The advisory is available at source.android.com.
