This vulnerability affects an unknown part of the component email-template Feature. The manipulation of the argument blob name with the input value .. leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, and integrity. CVE summarizes:

Directory traversal vulnerability in the email-template feature in Novell Filr before 1.2 Security Update 3 and 2.0 before Security Update 2 allows remote attackers to bypass intended access restrictions and write to arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) in a blob name.

The weakness was shared 08/01/2016 with SEC Consult Vulnerability Lab (Website). The advisory is available at seclists.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2016-1610 since 01/12/2016. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. This vulnerability is assigned to T1006 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
