A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in Linux Kernel up to 4.7 (Operating System). This vulnerability affects the function ioctl_send_fib
of the file drivers/scsi/aacraid/commctrl.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a race condition vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-362. The product contains a code sequence that can run concurrently with other code, and the code sequence requires temporary, exclusive access to a shared resource, but a timing window exists in which the shared resource can be modified by another code sequence that is operating concurrently. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:
Race condition in the ioctl_send_fib function in drivers/scsi/aacraid/commctrl.c in the Linux kernel through 4.7 allows local users to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds access or system crash) by changing a certain size value, aka a "double fetch" vulnerability.
The weakness was presented 08/06/2016 (Website). The advisory is available at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2016-6480 since 07/26/2016. The exploitation appears to be easy. Local access is required to approach this attack. The successful exploitation needs a single authentication. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
