A vulnerability was found in Wireshark up to 1.8.7 (Packet Analyzer Software). It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function dissect_r3_upstreamcommand_queryconfig
of the file packet-assa_r3.c of the component Assa Abloy R3 Dissector. The manipulation as part of a Zero-Length Item leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. As an impact it is known to affect availability. The summary by CVE is:
The dissect_r3_upstreamcommand_queryconfig function in epan/dissectors/packet-assa_r3.c in the Assa Abloy R3 dissector in Wireshark 1.8.x before 1.8.8 does not properly handle a zero-length item, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (infinite loop, and CPU and memory consumption) via a crafted packet.
