The issue has been introduced in 03/05/2008. The weakness was shared 06/11/2013 as MS13-047 as confirmed advisory (Website) via ZDI (Zero Day Initiative). This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2013-3141 since 04/17/2013. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be patching the affected component. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 12988.
