The Click-to-Run (C2R) implementation in Microsoft Office 2013 SP1 and 2016 allows local users to bypass the ASLR protection mechanism via a crafted application, aka "Microsoft APP-V ASLR Bypass."

The weakness was released 09/13/2016 by Udi Yavo with enSilo as MS16-107 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared at technet.microsoft.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2016-0137 since 12/04/2015. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1211 for this issue.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 93481 (MS16-107: Security Update for Microsoft Office (3185852)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 110283 (Microsoft Office Remote Code Execution Vulnerabilities (MS16-107)).

Applying the patch MS16-107 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
