A vulnerability was found in Barracuda SSL VPN 680Vx 2.3.3.193 (Network Encryption Software). It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is an unknown code of the file showAvailableAccounts.do of the component Parameter Handler. The manipulation of the argument selectedRoles
with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
The bug was discovered 03/05/2013. The weakness was shared 07/01/2013 by Gjoko Krstic (LiquidWorm) with Zero Science Lab as not defined advisory (Website). The advisory is available at zeroscience.mk. The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. This vulnerability is assigned to T1059.007 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
A public exploit has been developed by LiquidWorm (LiquidWorm) and been published immediately after the advisory. The exploit is available at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. Upgrading to version 2.3.3.216 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
