A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in Paolo Bacchilega file-roller up to 3.9.2. This affects the function extract_archive_thread
of the file fr-archive-libarchive.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, and integrity. The summary by CVE is:
Directory traversal vulnerability in File Roller 3.6.x before 3.6.4, 3.8.x before 3.8.3, and 3.9.x before 3.9.3, when libarchive is used, allows remote attackers to create arbitrary files via a crafted archive that is not properly handled in a "Keep directory structure" action, related to fr-archive-libarchive.c and fr-window.c.
