Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP2/3.5/3.5.1/4/4.5 on 64-bit Array code injection

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

This vulnerability affects an unknown function of the component Array Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a code injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-94. The product constructs all or part of a code segment using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the syntax or behavior of the intended code segment. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

The Common Language Runtime (CLR) in Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP2, 3.5, 3.5.1, 4, and 4.5 on 64-bit platforms does not properly allocate arrays of structures, which allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted .NET Framework application that changes array data, aka "Array Allocation Vulnerability."

The weakness was shared 07/09/2013 as MS13-052 as confirmed bulletin (Microsoft Technet). The advisory is available at technet.microsoft.com. The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. This vulnerability was named CVE-2013-3134 since 04/17/2013. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1059 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 67209 (MS13-052: Vulnerabilities in .NET Framework and Silverlight Could Allow Remote Code Execution (2861561)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 90896 (Microsoft .NET Framework and Silverlight Multiple Code Execution Vulnerabilities (MS13-052)).

Applying the patch MS13-052 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
