SAP Download Manager up to 2.1.142 on Win/Mac Key Generation hard-coded credentials

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

SAP Download Manager 2.1.142 and earlier generates an encryption key from a small key space on Windows and Mac systems, which allows context-dependent attackers to obtain sensitive configuration information by leveraging knowledge of a hardcoded key in the program code and a computer BIOS serial number, aka SAP Security Note 2282338.

The bug was discovered 03/08/2016. The weakness was released 12/14/2016 as 2282338 as confirmed security note (Website). The advisory is shared at packetstormsecurity.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2016-3685 since 03/29/2016. An attack has to be approached locally. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 07/07/2019). MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1110.001 for this issue.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 281 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
