A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in NVIDIA GPU Driver (Hardware Driver Software) (the affected version unknown). Affected is the function DxgDdiEscape
in the library nvlddmkm.sys of the component Kernel Mode Layer. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a array index vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-129. The product uses untrusted input when calculating or using an array index, but the product does not validate or incorrectly validates the index to ensure the index references a valid position within the array. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
All versions of NVIDIA Windows GPU Display Driver contain a vulnerability in the kernel mode layer (nvlddmkm.sys) handler for DxgDdiEscape where a value passed from a user to the driver is used without validation as the index to an array, leading to denial of service or potential escalation of privileges.
The bug was discovered 10/18/2016. The weakness was released 12/16/2016 (Website). The advisory is available at nvidia.custhelp.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2016-8816 since 10/18/2016.
