IBM Java 5/6/7 memory corruption

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability was found in IBM Java 5/6/7 (Programming Language Software) and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown part. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

Unspecified vulnerability in the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) in IBM Java 1.4.2 before 1.4.2 SR13-FP18, 5.0 before 5.0 SR16-FP3, 6 before 6 SR14, 6.0.1 before 6.0.1 SR6, and 7 before 7 SR5 allows remote attackers to affect confidentiality, availability, and integrity via unknown vectors, a different vulnerability than CVE-2013-3011 and CVE-2013-3012.

The weakness was disclosed 07/03/2013 as swg21642336 as confirmed advisory (IBM Knowledge Base). The advisory is shared for download at www-01.ibm.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2013-3009 since 04/12/2013. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 05/19/2021). It is expected to see the exploit prices for this product decreasing in the near future.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 68900 (RHEL 5 / 6 : java-1.6.0-ibm (RHSA-2013:1059)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Red Hat Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 168795 (SUSE Enterprise Linux Security update for java-1_7_1-ibm (SUSE-SU-2016:1299-1)).

Upgrading to version 7.0.0 SR5, 6.0.1 SR6, 6.0.0 SR14, 5.0.0 SR16 FP3 or 1.4.2 SR13 FP18 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (84150) and Tenable (68900). The entries 9226, 9199, 9223 and 9230 are pretty similar.
