The git_commit_message function in oid.c in libgit2 before 0.24.3 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds read) via a cat-file command with a crafted object file.
The bug was discovered 10/08/2016. The weakness was shared 02/03/2017 by Gustavo Grieco (Website). The advisory is available at lists.opensuse.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2016-8568 since 10/08/2016. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication.
