A Remote Arbitrary Command Execution vulnerability in HPE StoreVirtual 4000 Storage and StoreVirtual VSA Software running LeftHand OS version v12.5 and earlier was found. The problem was resolved in LeftHand OS v12.6 or any subsequent version.

The bug was discovered 01/31/2017. The weakness was disclosed 02/01/2017 with Hewlett Packard as [security bulletin] HPSBST03588 rev 1. - HPE StoreVirtual 4000 Storage and StoreVirtual VSA Software running LeftHand OS, Remote Arbitrary Command Execution as confirmed mailinglist post (Bugtraq). It is possible to read the advisory at seclists.org. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with HPE. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2016-8529 since 10/07/2016. The exploitation is known to be easy. Access to the local network is required for this attack. The requirement for exploitation is a simple authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1068 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
