The zzip_mem_entry_extra_block function in memdisk.c in zziplib 0.13.62 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (invalid memory read and crash) via a crafted ZIP file.

The bug was discovered 03/01/2017. The weakness was presented 03/01/2017 by Agostino Sarubbo with Gentoo (oss-sec). The advisory is available at openwall.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2017-5977 since 02/13/2017. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
