The zzip_mem_entry_new function in memdisk.c in zziplib 0.13.62 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds read and crash) via a crafted ZIP file.
The bug was discovered 03/01/2017. The weakness was shared 03/01/2017 by Agostino Sarubbo with Gentoo (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2017-5978 since 02/13/2017. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
