The bug was discovered 01/16/2016. The weakness was presented 03/23/2017 by Agostino Sarubbo with Gentoo (oss-sec). The advisory is shared for download at openwall.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2016-9275 since 11/11/2016. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.

Upgrading to version 20161124 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published before and not just after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
