An issue was discovered in certain Apple products. iOS before 10.3 is affected. Safari before 10.1 is affected. The issue involves the "Safari" component. It allows remote attackers to spoof FaceTime prompts in the user interface via a crafted web site.

The bug was discovered 03/28/2017. The weakness was released 03/27/2017 by Paul Thomson (xisigr) with Tencent Security Response Center as HT207600 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at support.apple.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2017-2453 since 12/01/2016. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1211 by the MITRE ATT&CK project. The advisory points out:

A spoofing issue existed in the handling of FaceTime prompts. This issue was addressed through improved input validation.

Upgrading to version 10.1 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
