A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in Apple Safari up to 10.0 (Web Browser). Affected is the function JSCallbackData
of the component WebKit JavaScript Bindings. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does

properties that are required to process the data safely and
correctly. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality.
The bug was discovered 03/28/2017. The weakness was presented 03/27/2017 by Paul Thomson (lokihardt) with Google Project Zero as HT207600 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at support.apple.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2017-2442 since 12/01/2016. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details and a public exploit are known. Multiple validation issues existed in the handling of page loading. This issue was addressed through improved logic.

As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 99167 (macOS : Apple Safari < 10.1 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family MacOS X Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 196754 (Ubuntu Security Notification for Webkit2gtk Vulnerabilities (USN-3257-1)). The code used by the exploit is:

Upgrading to version 10.1 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
