Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in McAfee SuperScan 4.0 allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via UTF-7 encoded sequences in a server response, which is not properly handled in the SuperScan HTML report.
The weakness was presented 08/02/2013 by Piotr Duszynski with Trustwave's SpiderLabs as confirmed mailinglist post (Full-Disclosure). The advisory is available at seclists.org. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability was named CVE-2013-4884 since 07/22/2013. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. The successful exploitation requires a single authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1059.007 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
A public exploit has been developed by Trustwave's SpiderLabs and been published 5 days after the advisory. It is possible to download the exploit at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept.
Upgrading to version 4.1 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
