A vulnerability has been found in Microsoft Internet Explorer 9/10 (Web Browser) and classified as critical. Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 and 10 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (memory corruption) via a crafted web site, aka "Internet Explorer Memory Corruption Vulnerability," a different vulnerability than CVE-2013-3191 and CVE-2013-3193.
The issue has been introduced in 03/16/2010. The weakness was released 08/13/2013 by Arthur Gerkis as MS13-059 as confirmed bulletin (Technet) via Zero Day Initiative (ZDI). It is possible to read the advisory at technet.microsoft.com. The public release was coordinated with Microsoft. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2013-3187 since 04/17/2013. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 05/21/2021). It is expected to see the exploit prices for this product decreasing in the near future.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1246 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 69324 (MS13-059: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (2862772)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 100160 (Microsoft Internet Explorer Multiple Remote Code Execution Vulnerabilities (MS13-059)).
Applying the patch MS13-059 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 13097.
