يتيح برنامج التشغيل الخاص بنواة النظام (kernel-mode driver) في Microsoft Windows Vista SP2، وWindows Server 2008 SP2 وR2 SP1، وWindows 7 SP1، وWindows 8.1، وWindows Server 2012 Gold وR2، وWindows RT 8.1، بالإضافة إلى Windows 10 Gold و1511، للمستخدمين المحليين اكتساب امتيازات أعلى عبر تطبيق مُعدّ خصيصاً (crafted application)، ويُعرف هذا باسم "ثغرة رفع الامتياز في Win32k" (Win32k Elevation of Privilege Vulnerability). وهي ثغرة مختلفة عن CVE-2016-0143 وCVE-2016-0165.
