2.6.12.5 से पहले का Linux kernel एक ऐसे keyring को उचित रूप से नष्ट नहीं करता है जो ठीक से instantiate नहीं किया गया था, जिससे स्थानीय उपयोगकर्ता या दूरस्थ आक्रमणकारी खाली न होने वाले payload वाला एक keyring प्रयोग करके denial of service (kernel oops) का कारण बन सकते हैं। इससे creation विफल हो जाती है और keyring destructor में null dereference की ओर ले जाती है।
