Un buffer overflow nel client Gopher di Microsoft Internet Explorer dalle versioni 5.1 alla 6.0, Proxy Server 2.0 o ISA Server 2000 consente agli attaccanti remoti di eseguire codice arbitrario tramite un URL gopher:// che reindirizza l'utente a un server Gopher reale o simulato il quale invia una risposta particolarmente lunga.
