Il driver del server (srv.sys) in Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, 2000, XP e Server 2003 consente agli attaccanti remoti di causare un denial of service (crash del sistema) tramite un messaggio SMB_COM_TRANSACTION SMB che contiene una stringa senza terminazione null, il che porta a un NULL dereference nella funzione ExecuteTransaction, potenzialmente correlato a un "SMB PIPE", noto anche come vulnerabilità "Mailslot DOS". NOTA: il nome "Mailslot DOS" è stato derivato da ricerche iniziali incomplete; la vulnerabilità non è associata a un mailslot.
