La funzione pipe_fcntl presente nel file fs/pipe.c del kernel Linux precedente alla versione 2.6.37 non determina correttamente se un file è una named pipe, consentendo agli utenti locali di causare un denial of service tramite una chiamata fcntl F_SETPIPE_SZ.
