Il server authoritativo PowerDNS (noto anche come pdns), nelle versioni precedenti alla 3.4.10, non gestisce correttamente un punto (.) all'interno delle etichette, consentendo ad attaccanti remoti di causare una negazione del servizio (consumo della CPU del backend) tramite una query DNS appositamente costruita.
