Il plugin SSL/TLS GnuTLS (1) e il plugin SSL/TLS OpenSSL (2) inclusi in libpurple in Pidgin prima della versione 2.10.10 non considerano correttamente l'estensione Basic Constraints durante la verifica dei certificati X.509 provenienti dai server SSL, il che consente agli attaccanti man-in-the-middle di spoofare i server e ottenere informazioni sensibili tramite un certificato appositamente creato.
