No kernel do Linux, a seguinte vulnerabilidade foi resolvida:

ksmbd: validar o comprimento da resposta IPC antes de desreferenciar seus campos

ipc_validate_msg() calcula o tamanho esperado da mensagem lendo os campos de comprimento fora do buffer de resposta fornecido pelo daemon ksmbd no espaço do usuário (payload_sz, session_key_len, ngroups, ...). Esses campos são lidos antes que o buffer seja verificado para garantir que é grande o suficiente para conter a estrutura à qual pertencem; portanto, uma resposta curta faz com que a leitura ultrapasse o final da alocação.

handle_response() dimensiona entry->response exclusivamente pelo comprimento do atributo netlink (nla_len()) e protege apenas a leitura inicial de handle, permitindo que o daemon instale uma resposta tão pequena quanto o objeto kmalloc-8 observado abaixo. Quando ipc_msg_send_request() então chama ipc_validate_msg() para um KSMBD_EVENT_RPC_REQUEST, o cast para struct ksmbd_rpc_command lê resp->payload_sz no deslocamento 8 de uma alocação de 8 bytes:
