Windows Internet Naming Service (WINS) 在 Windows NT Server 4.0 SP 6a、NT Terminal Server 4.0 SP 6、Windows 2000 Server SP3 和 SP4，以及 Windows Server 2003 中未正确验证 WINS 数据包中的计算机名称值，这允许远程攻击者执行任意代码或导致拒绝服务（服务器崩溃），从而产生“unchecked buffer”并可能触发 buffer overflow，即所谓的“Name Validation Vulnerability”。
