The issue has been introduced in 04/26/2012. The weakness was shared 06/12/2012 with Oracle as confirmed bulletin (Website). The advisory is shared for download at oracle.com. The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2012-1726 since 03/16/2012. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 47 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 802950 , which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 119186 (HP-UX Running Java multiple Vulnerabilities (HPSBUX02805)).

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at oracle.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
