The summary by CVE is:
networking.c in Redis before 3.2.7 allows "Cross Protocol Scripting" because it lacks a check for POST and Host: strings, which are not valid in the Redis protocol (but commonly occur when an attack triggers an HTTP request to the Redis TCP port).
The bug was discovered 01/31/2017. The weakness was presented 10/24/2017 (Website). The advisory is shared at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2016-10517 since 10/24/2017. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1211 for this issue.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 266 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 104521 (openSUSE Security Update : redis (openSUSE-2017-1258)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family SuSE Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 170558 (OpenSUSE Security Update for redis (openSUSE-SU-2017:2994-1)).
Upgrading to version 3.2.7 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published 3 weeks after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
