CVE-2026-101850 in Installed Baseinfo

Summary

by MITRE • 10/21/2026

Vulnerability in the Installed Base product of Oracle E-Business Suite (component: HTML UI). Supported versions that are affected are 12.2.3-12.2.15. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows unauthenticated attacker with network access via HTTP to compromise Installed Base. Successful attacks require human interaction from a person other than the attacker and while the vulnerability is in Installed Base, attacks may significantly impact additional products (scope change). Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized update, insert or delete access to some of Installed Base accessible data as well as unauthorized read access to a subset of Installed Base accessible data. CVSS 3.1 Base Score 6.1 (Confidentiality and Integrity impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N).

The vulnerability identified in Oracle E-Business Suite, specifically within the Installed Base component's HTML User Interface, represents a significant security risk for organizations relying on this enterprise resource planning platform. The affected versions span from 12.2.3 through 12.2.15, indicating that a broad range of deployments are susceptible to exploitation. This flaw is classified as an easily exploitable vulnerability because it requires low attack complexity and does not demand any prior authentication credentials. An attacker can initiate the exploit over standard HTTP network connections, which simplifies the initial access vector significantly compared to vulnerabilities requiring encrypted channels or complex protocol interactions. The presence of this weakness in a core module like Installed Base is particularly concerning given its role in managing asset lifecycles and inventory data within the broader suite architecture.

From a technical perspective, the flaw allows an unauthenticated attacker with network access to compromise the integrity and confidentiality of the system's data. While the vulnerability resides specifically in the HTML UI layer of the Installed Base module, it is not isolated. The operational impact extends beyond this single component due to scope change characteristics inherent in Oracle E-Business Suite’s integrated architecture. This means that an exploit targeting Installed Base can cascade into other modules, potentially affecting financials, supply chain management, or human resources data depending on how the underlying database and application logic are interconnected. The requirement for human interaction from a person other than the attacker suggests that this vulnerability is likely tied to social engineering tactics or cross-site scripting mechanisms where a victim must perform an action, such as clicking a malicious link or visiting a compromised page, to trigger the exploit payload.

The consequences of a successful attack are severe and multifaceted. The primary impact involves unauthorized modifications to data accessible through Installed Base. This includes the ability for attackers to update, insert, or delete records without proper authorization. Such integrity violations can lead to inaccurate inventory counts, incorrect asset valuations, and disrupted operational workflows that rely on precise data tracking. Furthermore, the vulnerability grants unauthorized read access to a subset of data within the module. Although this is limited to a specific scope rather than full database exposure, it still poses risks related to intellectual property theft or competitive intelligence gathering if sensitive asset details are exposed. The combination of read and write capabilities effectively allows an attacker to manipulate business records while potentially exfiltrating confidential information, thereby undermining both data integrity and confidentiality principles central to cybersecurity frameworks.

In terms of industry standard classifications, this vulnerability aligns with CWE-79 for Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation, commonly known as Cross-Site Scripting (XSS), or potentially CWE-20 if it involves improper input validation leading to SQL injection-like behaviors within the UI layer. The requirement for user interaction places it firmly under ATT&CK technique T1566.002, specifically Spearphishing Link, where an attacker sends a link that leads to exploitation when clicked by the victim. Additionally, the scope change aspect highlights the risk of lateral movement and privilege escalation within integrated enterprise systems, which is critical for defenders monitoring attack paths across multiple application modules. The CVSS 3.1 base score of 6.1 reflects moderate severity, driven primarily by the network accessibility and low complexity but tempered slightly by the need for user interaction and limited availability impact.

Mitigation strategies must address both immediate remediation and long-term architectural resilience. Organizations running affected versions should immediately apply Oracle’s latest security patches to close this specific vulnerability in the Installed Base HTML UI layer. Since HTTP is mentioned as the transport vector, enforcing HTTPS across all E-Business Suite interfaces is critical to prevent man-in-the-middle attacks that could facilitate credential harvesting or session hijacking alongside exploitation of this flaw. Implementing strict input validation and output encoding at the application level can help mitigate similar vulnerabilities in other modules. Furthermore, deploying Web Application Firewalls with rulesets tuned for XSS and injection patterns may provide an additional layer of defense against automated scanning tools attempting to exploit this weakness. Security awareness training is also essential given the human interaction requirement; users should be educated on recognizing suspicious links or requests that could trigger such exploits. Regular audits of user permissions ensure that even if exploitation occurs, the blast radius remains contained by adhering to the principle of least privilege across all integrated modules within the suite.
