Submit #902275: Tenda AC8 v4.0 V16.03.33.05 Stack-based Buffer Overflowinfo

TitelTenda AC8 v4.0 V16.03.33.05 Stack-based Buffer Overflow
BeschreibungA vulnerability was found in Tenda AC8 V16.03.33.05. It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function formSetDeviceName of the component HTTP Handler, reachable at POST /goform/SetOnlineDevName. The manipulation of the argument deviceName with an unknown input leads to a stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-121. The product copies an input buffer to a fixed-size output buffer on the stack via sprintf() without verifying that the size of the input is less than the size of the output buffer, leading to a buffer overflow. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The offset from the start of deviceName to the saved return address is 344 bytes; an input longer than that overwrites the return address and the MIPS program counter, allowing arbitrary code execution in the httpd (root) context.
