| Título | Assimp commit 17c12da Heap-based Buffer Overflow |
|---|
| Descripción | A heap-buffer-overflow vulnerability exists in Assimp's 3DGS MDL7 model bone node parser within the Assimp::MDLImporter::AddBonesToNodeGraph_3DGS_MDL7() function at MDLLoader.cpp:1719. The flaw is caused by uncontrolled loop iteration relying on untrusted file metadata without buffer boundary validation. The program uses the raw bone count value (`pcHeader->bones_num`) directly read from the MDL7 file as the loop upper limit, while the actual heap-allocated `apcBones` bone pointer array has a smaller memory size. When processing a maliciously crafted MDL7 file with an inflated bone count value, the loop continues iterating beyond the valid array range, causing the `apcBones2` pointer to step past the end of the allocated buffer and trigger an out-of-bounds 8-byte heap memory read. This vulnerability leads to memory corruption and program crash, and remote attackers can exploit this flaw via a specially crafted MDL model file to launch denial-of-service (DoS) attacks. |
