| Titre | Assimp commit 17c12da Heap-based Buffer Overflow |
|---|
| Description | A heap-buffer-overflow vulnerability exists in Assimp's 3DGS MDL7 model parser within the Assimp::MDLImporter::ReadFaces_3DGS_MDL7() function at MDLLoader.cpp:1066. The flaw stems from missing buffer boundary validation when accessing vertex data via the `_AI_MDL7_ACCESS_VERT` macro. The macro calculates vertex memory addresses using user-controlled index offsets and fixed internal offsets without verifying that the resulting address lies within the bounds of the allocated file buffer. A maliciously crafted MDL7 file with invalid vertex count or truncated metadata can trigger out-of-bounds memory access, allowing the parser to read 4 bytes of heap memory beyond the valid buffer region. This vulnerability causes memory corruption and application crashes, and remote attackers can exploit this issue via a specially crafted MDL file to induce a denial-of-service (DoS) condition. |
