Submit #873130: Assimp commit 17c12da Heap-based Buffer Overflowinfo

TitleAssimp commit 17c12da Heap-based Buffer Overflow
DescriptionA heap-buffer-overflow vulnerability exists in Assimp's 3DGS MDL7 model output mesh generator within theAssimp::MDLImporter::GenerateOutputMeshes_3DGS_MDL7() function at MDLLoader.cpp:1944. The flaw is caused by insufficient array boundary checking during bone data initialization. The program allocates the`pcMesh->mBones` bone array with a fixed size based on the declared bone count, yet iterates and increments the loop index without validating the maximum accessible array index. Processing a maliciously crafted MDL7 file can make the loop index exceed the actual allocated bone array size, triggering an out-of-bounds 8-byte heap write operation on the bone array buffer. This memory corruption issue can result in program crash and abnormal memory modification, allowing remote attackers to perform denial-of-service (DoS) attacks via a specially constructed MDL model file.
