| Title | Tenda AC8 v4.0 V16.03.33.05 Stack-based Buffer Overflow |
|---|
| Description | A vulnerability was found in Tenda AC8 V16.03.33.05. It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function formSetDeviceName of the component HTTP Handler, reachable at POST /goform/SetOnlineDevName. The manipulation of the argument deviceName with an unknown input leads to a stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-121. The product copies an input buffer to a fixed-size output buffer on the stack via sprintf() without verifying that the size of the input is less than the size of the output buffer, leading to a buffer overflow. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The offset from the start of deviceName to the saved return address is 344 bytes; an input longer than that overwrites the return address and the MIPS program counter, allowing arbitrary code execution in the httpd (root) context. |
