Submit #925229: GNU Binutils 2.47 Memory Corruptioninfo

TitleGNU Binutils 2.47 Memory Corruption
DescriptionA vulnerability was found in GNU Binutils 2.47. The ld linker has an assertion failure in _bfd_write_merged_section (bfd/merge.c:1121) when linking malformed ELF files with --shared -z now options. When the merge state of a merged section is inconsistent with its content, the BFD_ASSERT triggers. In non-assert builds (ASAN/release), this causes a NULL pointer dereference SEGV. Reproducer: ld --shared -z now -o /dev/null bug_11.o (with PoC file). Stack trace: #0 _bfd_write_merged_section bfd/merge.c:1121, #1 elf_link_input_bfd bfd/elflink.c:12213, #2 _bfd_elf_final_link bfd/elflink.c:13189, #3 ldwrite ld/ldwrite.c:548, #4 main ld/ldmain.c:1001.
