Details
A vulnerability was found in PCAUSA Rawether Framework (affected version not known). It has been classified as critical. Affected is some unknown functionality of the component BPF Data Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
PCAUSA Rawether framework does not properly validate BPF data, allowing a crafted malicious BPF program to perform operations on memory outside of its typical bounds on the driver's receipt of network packets. Local attackers can exploit this issue to execute arbitrary code with SYSTEM privileges.
The bug was discovered 03/15/2017. The weakness was disclosed 12/16/2017 by ReWolf as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is available at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2017-3196 since 12/05/2016. The exploitability is told to be easy. Local access is required to approach this attack.
