Summary
by MITRE • 10/21/2024
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
ocfs2: remove unreasonable unlock in ocfs2_read_blocks
Patch series "Misc fixes for ocfs2_read_blocks", v5.
This series contains 2 fixes for ocfs2_read_blocks(). The first patch fix the issue reported by syzbot, which detects bad unlock balance in ocfs2_read_blocks(). The second patch fixes an issue reported by Heming Zhao when reviewing above fix.
This patch (of 2):
There was a lock release before exiting, so remove the unreasonable unlock.

The vulnerability identified as CVE-2024-49965 affects the Linux kernel's ocfs2 filesystem implementation, specifically within the ocfs2_read_blocks function. This issue represents a lock management problem that can lead to improper synchronization behavior within the distributed filesystem. The ocfs2 filesystem is designed for shared storage environments where multiple nodes access the same storage resources simultaneously, making proper locking mechanisms critical for data integrity and system stability. The vulnerability stems from an unnecessary unlock operation that occurs before function exit, creating a potential race condition or inconsistent lock state that could compromise the filesystem's operational integrity.
The technical flaw manifests as an不合理的解锁操作在ocfs2_read_blocks函数退出前执行,这违反了标准的锁管理原则。
