CVE-2026-114493 in LocalAIinfo

Summary

by MITRE • 10/22/2026

LocalAI v4.6.0 through v4.11.0 contains a server-side request forgery vulnerability in core/gallery/gallery.go that validates only the initial gallery config URL. Attackers can submit a config URL through POST /models/apply that redirects to internal or cloud metadata addresses, receiving those internal responses as gallery content.

LocalAI versions 4.6.0 through 4.11.0 are affected by a server-side request forgery vulnerability located within the core/gallery/gallery.go module. This flaw stems from an insufficient validation mechanism when processing configuration URLs submitted via the POST /models/apply endpoint. Specifically, the application performs security checks only on the initial URL provided in the request payload but fails to enforce similar restrictions during subsequent HTTP redirects. Consequently, if a malicious actor submits a gallery config URL that is configured to redirect to an internal service or cloud metadata address, the server will follow this redirection without verifying the final destination's safety. This behavior allows attackers to leverage the application’s elevated privileges and network access to retrieve sensitive data from internal infrastructure components that are typically not exposed to external networks.

The operational impact of this vulnerability is significant as it enables unauthorized access to internal cloud metadata services, such as AWS Instance Metadata Service or Azure Managed Identity endpoints. These services often contain critical authentication tokens, security credentials, and configuration details necessary for the application’s operation. By receiving these internal responses as gallery content, an attacker can extract sensitive information that facilitates further compromise of the underlying infrastructure. This vulnerability aligns with CWE-918, which describes Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) flaws where a web server fetches a remote resource without validating the user-supplied URL properly. The exploitation technique is consistent with ATT&CK tactic T1557, specifically subtechnique T1557.001 for Adversary-in-the-Middle or credential harvesting via SSRF, as it allows an attacker to intercept and utilize internal network communications that were intended to remain isolated from external actors.

To mitigate this vulnerability, developers must implement strict URL validation policies that inspect both the initial request URL and any subsequent URLs resulting from redirects. This includes maintaining a whitelist of allowed domains or IP ranges for gallery configurations and explicitly blocking requests targeting private IP address spaces, such as those defined in RFC 1918, as well as cloud metadata endpoints like 169.254.169.254. Additionally, the application should disable automatic HTTP redirects during configuration fetching or manually verify each redirect step against a predefined safe list of hosts. Upgrading to a patched version that addresses this logic error is essential for restoring security integrity in environments running LocalAI between versions 4.6.0 and 4.11.0.
