The SureForms plugin for WordPress, which provides functionality for creating contact forms, AI-driven forms, payment integrations, surveys, and quizzes, contains a critical security vulnerability identified as Stored Cross-Site Scripting within its text field handling mechanisms. This flaw persists in all versions up to and including 2.12.2. The root cause of this vulnerability lies in insufficient input sanitization and inadequate output escaping when processing user-supplied data entered into specific form fields. Unlike reflected XSS where the malicious script is immediately executed from a URL parameter, stored XSS involves persisting the malicious payload on the target server, typically within a database or file system, so that it is served to other users upon subsequent requests. In this context, an attacker can inject arbitrary web scripts by exploiting the text field entity-encoded payloads, which suggests that while some encoding might be applied, it fails to properly neutralize script execution contexts when the data is rendered back into HTML pages for viewing or editing purposes.
The operational impact of this vulnerability is severe due to its unauthenticated nature and stored persistence. Because no authentication is required to exploit this flaw, any internet user with access to the WordPress site can initiate an attack vector by submitting a form containing malicious JavaScript code.
