When a "javascript:" URL is drag and dropped by a user into the addressbar, the URL will be processed and executed. This allows for users to be socially engineered to execute an XSS attack on themselves. This vulnerability affects Firefox < 53.

The bug was discovered 04/19/2017. The weakness was shared 04/19/2017 by Huzaifa Sidhpurwala with Zero Day Initiative as MFSA 2017-10 as confirmed security advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at mozilla.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2017-5458 since 01/13/2017. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim.
