Details
A vulnerability was found in Google Chrome up to 57 (Web Browser). It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown code block of the component FFmpeg. The manipulation as part of a Video File leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
An integer overflow in FFmpeg in Google Chrome prior to 57.0.2987.98 for Mac, Windows, and Linux and 57.0.2987.108 for Android allowed a remote attacker to perform an out of bounds memory write via a crafted video file, related to ChunkDemuxer.
The bug was discovered 03/09/2017. The weakness was shared 04/25/2017 (Website). The advisory is available at chromereleases.googleblog.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2017-5048 since 01/02/2017. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
