A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in SWFTools 0.9.2 (Programming Tool Software). This vulnerability affects the function png_load in the library lib/png.c of the component png2swf. The manipulation as part of a PNG File leads to a out-of-bounds write vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-787. In SWFTools 0.9.2, an out-of-bounds write of heap data can occur in the function png_load() in lib/png.c:755. This issue can be triggered by a malformed PNG file that is mishandled by png2swf. Attackers could exploit this issue for DoS; it might cause arbitrary code execution.
The bug was discovered 05/01/2017. The weakness was disclosed 05/01/2017 (GitHub Repository). The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2017-8400 since 05/01/2017. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation.
