Details
A vulnerability was found in Xen up to 4.2 (Virtualization Software). It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is the function get_user of the component MMIO Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-200. The product exposes sensitive information to an actor that is not explicitly authorized to have access to that information. Impacted is confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
Xen PV guest before Xen 4.3 checked access permissions to MMIO ranges only after accessing them, allowing host PCI device space memory reads, leading to information disclosure. This is an error in the get_user function. NOTE: the upstream Xen Project considers versions before 4.5.x to be EOL.
The bug was discovered 05/02/2017. The weakness was shared 05/03/2017 by Jan Beulich (Website). The advisory is shared for download at lists.opensuse.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2017-7995 since 04/21/2017. The attack needs to be approached locally. A simple authentication is required for exploitation.
